Frequently asked questions

Deciding to begin psychological therapy is an important step. Here, you will find answers regarding our culturally informed approach, confidentiality, session arrangements, and what you can expect when working with Sable Psychology.

Understanding our practice

We offer thoughtful, confidential, and evidence-grounded therapy tailored to the unique experiences of Black professionals and leaders. Below are answers to the questions clients most frequently ask before arranging their first consultation.

What does culturally informed psychological therapy mean?

Culturally informed therapy acknowledges the profound influence that identity, culture, heritage, and social context have on psychological wellbeing. It means your lived experience is respected and understood without you having to justify or educate your therapist. However, we never make assumptions; your individuality always remains central.

Will my race or cultural background automatically become the focus of therapy?

No. Your therapeutic goals lead the work. Whether you are navigating professional leadership pressures, relationship dynamics, life transitions, or emotional distress, your background provides context rather than a mandatory focus. We explore whatever matters most to you.

Do I need to have experienced workplace discrimination or racism to seek support?

Not at all. Clients seek therapy with Sable Psychology for a wide range of personal and professional reasons, including stress, perfectionism, anxiety, bereavement, self-worth, and navigating personal transitions. Any concern significant to you is worthy of therapeutic space.

What happens during a typical therapy session?

Sessions last 50 minutes and offer a reflective, calm, and collaborative dialogue. Together, we explore patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour at a pace you feel comfortable with. There is never any pressure to disclose difficult experiences before you are ready.

How strictly is my confidentiality and discretion protected?

Confidentiality and discretion are paramount. As a private practice working with executives and leaders, we follow rigorous ethical standards and data protection guidelines. All details are kept securely, and the boundaries of confidentiality will be transparently discussed with you before therapy starts.

Where are sessions held, and do you offer online appointments?

We provide both in-person appointments at a discreet, convenient Central London location in the City of Westminster, and secure online therapy across the UK. Both formats offer the same dedicated, confidential, and high-quality psychological care.

What are your fees, consultation options, and cancellation terms?

Individual 50-minute sessions are £100, scheduled weekly or fortnightly to suit your diary. We provide a complimentary 15-minute introductory consultation to discuss your needs. We operate a standard 48-hour cancellation policy.

Can I use private medical insurance for my therapy?

Arrangements with private medical insurance providers, including AXA and Bupa, are currently being explored and finalised. Please get in touch directly to discuss your specific policy and self-funding payment arrangements.
